I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to my second grade classroom. This is my eighteenth year teaching second grade at Palla Elementary School. I am looking forward to getting to know both you and your child this year. Your student will achieve much this year in terms of academic growth, greater self-confidence, and improved social skills.
I would like to briefly discuss my homework policy. Every Monday your child will receive a homework packet which has spelling words for that week, a spelling practice worksheet, both addition and subtraction practice, and a reading log for you to enter the books your child has read at home that week. Books that your child reads during the After School Program may also be entered on the Reading Log Sheet. Please sign the reading log. Books read during the After School Program may be signed off by their after school teacher. Homework is due every Friday.
At this time I would also like to share some rules and procedures that your child will be expected to follow in class. The rules are: (1) Listen carefully. (2) Follow directions. (3) Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working. (4) Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions. (5) Respect school and personal property. (6) Work and play safely. You may expect a note to be sent home with your child if he/she is having difficulty following any of these rules. Any student who consistently fails to adhere to these rules will not be able to attend the end-of-the-year field trip.
I am looking forward to meeting you on Back-to-School Night. You will be receiving a notice of the time and date of that event. During Back-to-School Night you will be able to schedule your parent-teacher conference. You will also be receiving a notice of the dates and time slots of Parent-Teacher Conference Week.
There will only be three scheduled parties this school year. They will be to celebrate Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. Your child may bring only pre-packaged treats to share, and the only beverage allowed by the district is bottled water. Unfortunately, students will not be able to celebrate their individual birthdays. Their birthdays are, however, recognized by the principal!
Please feel free to meet with me before or after school if you have any questions or concerns about your child during this school year.
