Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! My name is Mrs. Castillo. I will be your child’s first grade teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. I am looking forward to having your child in my classroom. Your child is going to have a wonderful time developing new talents, skills, and abilities. I am looking forward to meeting all of you in the near future.
We will have an exciting year as we practice and develop our reading skills-adding to our sight word vocabulary, learning to use decoding skills, and increasing our comprehension skills. In order to guarantee your child, and all of the students in my classroom, the excellent learning environment they deserve, I am utilizing the following discipline plan. I believe that all my students can behave appropriately in my classroom, and I expect them to do so. In our classroom, students are taught to make the right decisions because it is the right thing to do. Students are taught to be in charge of their actions and they take pride in knowing they did the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do. I will be using Classroom Dojo in my classroom. This is something that I highly encourage parents to take advantage of to see how your child is doing in the classroom. More info on Class Dojo will be coming home soon.
Homework will begin the week of August 27th and will be given out on a weekly basis. However, the first homework will be given out in class and we will work on it together so that your child will know how to do it independently in the future. Be looking for homework to start coming home the week of Sept. 5. Homework will be sent home on Mondays and is expected to be returned on Fridays. A reading log will be sent home along with the homework. It is a district-wide policy that your child must read 20 minutes every night.
As a parent, you are your child’s first teacher, and I value your input. I know you want your child to gain as much from his/her experience in my class as I do. Therefore if you have any question PLEASE call or email me, or send a note with your child. I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year.
