Welcome to 2nd Grade

Dear Parents,

Welcome to second grade at Palla School! I am excited about starting a new school year and I am eager to help your child explore and learn about the world around them. Below is a list of our classroom rules. These rules are closely related to our school wide expectations. Please discuss these rules with your child.

P- Practice self control

A- Achieve goals

W- Will be respectful

S-  Stay on task

Students who follow these rules will be rewarded in various ways including PAWS tickets, play day, computer time, and prizes from the prize box.

Below is a list of consequences for those students who do not make good choices.

1st offense- students will be given a verbal warning and we will discuss how they can make better choices.

2nd offense – students will miss 5 minutes of recess time and write 1-2 sentences about the PAWS rule they did not follow.

3rd offense – parent phone call to discuss the behavior- student can also be sent to a buddy teacher.

4th offense – lunch detention and/or visit the principal.

Homework will be sent home each Monday. It will be due on Friday. You will find that the homework packet is very simple. It will consist of a list of spelling words, a spelling practice page, and 1-2 math review pages. In addition, students are required to read for 20 minutes each night and record it on the lined paper that is included. (I will explain these in more detail at Back to School Night)

For those parents who wish to keep in close contact with me, my school email address is This is probably the easiest way to get a hold of me. I check email throughout the school day and can usually respond within a few hours. Otherwise you can call the school at 837-6100 and leave me a message.

Second grade is full of lots of new experiences for your child. It is also a year of tremendous growth. I am looking forward to working with you and your child so we can make this the best school year ever! I hope to see you all at Back to School Night!

Thank you,
